Instrument maker   engineer   Musician

Bryan Tolley is an inspired instrument maker. By working from ancient illustrations, paintings, sculptures and texts he has recreated many instruments from a period stretching from the 12th to the 18th century. As such he has revived a universe of sound from the origin of our western culture.

Bryan Tolley does not limit his creativity to early music; sometimes an idea will enter his head and a totally original futuristic instrument will emerge from the atelier.

He is not a maker limited his to one family of instruments; he can build stringed instruments just as well as wind instruments and percussion: hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, tromba marina, medieval fiddle, flutes, etc...

Bryan invites you to explore the site; it is an exhibition of original instruments made with over forty years of experience in the workshop. Share his fascination for these unusual musical instruments, hear what they actually sound like and be aware of his passion for the hurdy-gurdy.
